The IT Suite

Working in partnership to provide formal and informal learning opportunities in a friendly and accessible environment.

Our facilities

The YMCA IT Suite is based on the main site of YMCA Central Herts, which is located on Peartree Lane, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

It has been run in partnership with Central Herts YMCA, YMCA Training and Oaklands College, in conjunction with the Welwyn Hatfield Learning Forum since 2002.

The air conditioned Suite comprises of 14 flat screen PC’s running Mircosoft Office, the Internet etc, two printers; mono & colour, a scanner, Interactive SMART Board projector, flip chart/white board and a laminator.

New to using computers? Then why not join one of our beginners workshops? 1 & half hour sessions. Mouse & Keyboard skills, Computers for Absolute Beginners & Internet for Beginners
Publisher Level 1 - Learn how to make your own cards, calendars, newsletters and more on a computer, using your own photographs and online resources / 4 weeks
50+ Class Every Wednesday Beginners 9:30-10:30am Intermediates 10:30-11:30am, no need to book
Word Level 1 - New to Word processing and want to learn more? 4 week course
Word Level 2 or Publisher Level 2 - build on and develop your skills / 4 weeks (new for Autumn 2008)
Power Point - Learn how to make posters and presentations / 3 weeks
Excel Level 1 - Learn more about using spreadsheets for budgeting and home banking, layouts, adding formulas and making charts/graphs / 4 weeks
Help with choosing the right PC/Laptop for you - 1 hour session (new for Autumn 2008)

The computer course at the YMCA is a great introduction for technophobes and the computer scared novice. The facilities are very good and the teacher is accessible with resident volunteers giving help when it is required of them. And they also allow the students the use of the facility when the lesson is over on other days. This allows the novice to retain the lessons they have learnt at class and thus give them confidence. So why not take the first step and take advantage of one of their courses, just your time and commitment is required. Paul (30yrs)
