Pre-School Nurseries in Welwyn
This is for children aged 3 years to rising 5’s and has a staff ratio of 1:8.
There are two rooms in pre-school each room has different play areas. One room is for more messy, noisy play such as painting, sticking and musical instruments and the other is for quieter play with a writing table, computers, math’s area and home corner. The children are able to flow between the two rooms enabling them to explore and enhance their all round development.
The Children are divided in to four groups (blue, green, yellow and orange). Each colour group has its own keyworker.
Each child has a coat peg and a spare clothes bag. The children are encouraged to develop a certain level of independence; going to the toilet by themselves, hand washing, eating with a knife and fork and learning to put on their coats and shoes.
We follow The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage (2000), the Birth to Three Matters (2002) framework and the National Standards for Under 8s Daycare and Childminding (2003). This creates a coherent and flexible approach to care and learning for all children under five years of age, which became compulsory in September 2008.
The EYFS is used in our daily planning and evaluation of learning activities and the care that we provide. We also use the areas of learning and development to observe and assess each individual child. The areas of learning and development are as follows:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
We record your child’s learning and development throughout the EYFS in their own scrap book, which contains photographs, creative work and observations of their ‘Learning Journey’ at nursery as well as sharing with parents and carers all the fun things they have enjoyed doing. These are continually available to share with parents and carers.
We also hold regular Parents Evenings where they can be shared.
Towards the end of your child’s time in pre-school the staff team will communicate with your child’s new school, to help make the transition easier for them.
