Toddlers
The toddler room is for the children aged 2 – 3 years old. The child staff ratio in the room is 1 : 4.
The toddler room is divided into two separate rooms, called the big room and the little room. The younger toddlers use the little room for their activity times, along with their key workers. Up to 8 children can use this room.
The big toddler room is used for the older toddlers at activity time, along with their key workers. Up to 20 children can use this room. The same activities are available to all the children in both of the rooms (see attached resources sheets)
Each day there is an adult led activity, which is based with the Birth to three matters framework.
The frameworks key areas are:
- A Strong Child
- A Skilful Communicator
- A Competant Learner
- A Healthy Child
The children are also able to have free choice play throughout the day.
Although at activity time the children split up to two rooms, all of the children are able to socialise with each other, at all meal times, garden times and TV time.
Each child in the room has a coat peg, a spare clothes bag, a bed bag (if they have a sleep) and a nappy basket in the bathroom, if they are in nappies.
The toddler room is the room that the children’s toilet training usually develops. The parents and the child’s keyworker work together to establish the right time for this, for the individual child’s needs.
Each week, you will have the opportunity to take home and read your child’s diary, which will give you the opportunity to see what your child has been doing at nursery. In the diaries we have a section for parents comments for you to write about what you have been doing at home, or any information that you feel would be useful to us at nursery.
Every three months we record your child’s development using progress charts. Once again these charts are available for you to take home and to be discussed during parents evenings.
